Our Story
Founded on Discipline • Built for Execution • Focused on Certainty
The Cornovus Capital story begins with a straightforward conviction: institutional-grade capital advisory should be available to every sponsor, investor, and owner-operator who needs it, not just those with existing relationships at major financial institutions. Founded in late 2017, Cornovus Capital was built to close the gap between what sponsors needed and what the capital markets actually required, by performing the underwriting first, then placing the credit.
The name Cornovus derives from the Latin words "Cor" (heart) and "Novus" (new), reflecting the founding premise: bring something new to commercial finance, grounded in genuine care for the client's outcome and genuine rigor in the underwriting process.
How the Firm Was Built
Cornovus Capital was built around a specific operating philosophy: underwrite every transaction to the standard a lender's credit committee would adopt, then place that credit with a pre-qualified capital partner matched to the transaction's profile, structure, asset class, and geography. This approach separates advisory value from deal volume. Every engagement receives the same institutional depth regardless of loan size or complexity.
Over time, the firm expanded from its initial SBA and conventional focus into a full seven-silo advisory platform, adding Bridge and Structured Debt, CMBS and Conduit, LifeCo, Agency and Multifamily, and Student Housing as execution channels. A Hospitality Owner's Representation overlay was added as principals with direct hotel ownership experience joined the firm, giving Cornovus a capability set that few advisory practices can match: capital markets expertise combined with operational ownership context.
Today, Cornovus Capital serves commercial real estate investors, developers, owner-operators, and business owners across the United States, with the same analytical standard applied to every transaction, from a single-asset SBA acquisition to a complex multi-property recapitalization.
What Has Not Changed
From the firm's first engagement through every transaction since, three things have remained constant. Underwriting comes first. The credit is positioned before it is placed. And execution is managed through closing, not handed off at term sheet.
These are not aspirational statements. They are the operational architecture the firm was built on and has not deviated from. For sponsors and investors who have experienced what happens when those disciplines are absent, that consistency matters.
